Human and murine TNF-alpha show approximately 79% homology and human TNF-alpha is active on murine cells with a slightly reduced specific activity.

Projected MW = 19.6 kDa. The recombinant protein migrates as two bands with an apparent MW = 21 and 23 kDa in SDS-PAGE.

Biological Activity:

The ED50 is determined by the Cytotoxicity Assay for the human- TNF- alpha for dosedependent cytolytic effects of serial dilutions of h-TNF-alpha on the fibrosarcoma L-929 cells. The ED50 for a typical batch of recombinant human TNF-alpha is 40 ng/ml.

Endotoxin Level:

< 0.005 ng per µg of product (< 0.05 EU/µg) as measured by kinetic LAL assay.
