Description:

Guanylin is an endogenous activator of intestinal guanylate cyclase. It stimulates this enzyme through the same receptor binding region as the heat-stable enterotoxins. Inactive proguanylin is synthesized by gut enterochromaffin cells as a prohormone of 115 amino acids, then processed to proguanylin (aa 22-115) which circulates in the blood.
