Description:

Cancer/testis antigen 1 is expressed in only normal testis and ovary tissues and in a wide variety of cancers. The existence of blood-testis barrier and the lack of human leukocyte antigen (HLA) class I expression on the surface of germ cells prevent the normal immune system interacting with CT antigens proteins. CT antigens can be regarded as essentially tumor-specific targets for cancer immunotherapy.
