Description:

Proteinase 3 (PR-3) is a human polymorphonuclear leukocyte serine proteinase that degrades elastin in vitro and has been shown to play a role in the pathogenesis of emphysema. PR-3 is overexpressed in a variety of acute and chronic myeloid leukemia cells. Autoantibodies against PR-3 are an obligate feature in the pathogenesis of Wegener's granulomatosis, a systemic autoimmune vasculitis.
