Description:

Dipeptidyl Peptidase 4 is a lymphocyte cell surface antigen which is increased during T-cell activation and is also expressed in other tissues, such as placenta, kidney, etc. It is an atypical serine protease which has been implicated in a variety of biological functions including diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, T-cell activation, cell-to-cell adhesion, and recently in HIV infection. DPP4 cleaves X-proline dipeptides from the N-terminus of polypeptides. There are over 63 substrates which can bind specifically to DPP4 enzyme including growth factors, chemokines, neuropeptides. DPP4 plays a major role in glucose metabolism by cleaving incretins such as glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and GLP-1.
