Description:

Technical Grade Native Bovine Thrombin is used to defibrinate plasma, producing serum matrixes to be used as controls and standards. Using bovine thrombin in polyclonal antibody production to defibrinate plasma may increase antibody yields by 15-20% over off-the-clot methods of defibrination.
Specific Activity 50-150 U/mg solid in US/NIH coagulation units.

Coagulation Factor 2 (F2) prothrombin, is proteolytically cleaved to form Thrombin (activated Factor II) in the first step of the Coagulation Cascade. Thrombin is a serine protease that converts Fibrinogen, a soluble plasma glycoprotein, to an insoluble protein gel called fibrin, the essential component of the blood clot. to Fibrin, thereby playing a key role in blood clot formation.
