The lipid A domain of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is a unique, glucosaminebased phospholipid that makes up the outer monolayer of the outer membrane of most gramnegative bacteria. Lipid A is responsible for the endotoxic activities of LPS, and a heteropolysaccharide.
