Description:

Keyhole limpet hemocyanin (KLH) is a high molecular weight protein with many available primary amines to facilitate protein conjugation. Low molecular weight peptides, small proteins and drug molecules that are not immunogenic require the use of a carrier protein to stimulate a response from the immune system for antibody production. Since KLH is derived from the limpet, a gastropod, it is phylogenetically distant from mammalian proteins, thus reducing false positives in immunologically-based research techniques in mammalian model organisms. KLH is a potent immunostimulatory antigen that has been used in a number of human clinical research settings and has an excellent safety profile. A robust immune response can be attained from immunization with a single dose of KLH by various routes and in various doses.
