Description:

MON1100 reacts with a 59 kD glycoprotein specific for the CD4 antigen, which functions as a receptor for MHC class II and for HIV. The antigen is characteristic for helper T-cells. The specificity was confirmed by testing with CD4 cDNA transfected cells, with purified CD4 antigen and competition studies with other CD4 antibodies. CD4 is a co-receptor involved in immune response (co-receptor activity in binding to MHC class II molecules) and HIV infection (human immunodeficiency virus; CD4 is primary receptor for HIV-1 surface glycoprotein gp120). CD4 regulates T-cell activation, T/B cell adhesion, T-cell differentiation, Tcell selection and signal transduction.
