Description:

B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA), also known as tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily member 17 (TNFRSF17), is a receptor preferentially expressed in mature B lymphocytes, and is important for B cell development and autoimmune response. BCMA, along with two related TNFR superfamily B-cell activation factor receptor (BAFF-R) and transmembrane activator and calcium modulator and cyclophilin ligand interactor (TACI), critically regulate B cell proliferation and survival, as well as maturation and differentiation into plasma cells. BCMA is highly expressed on the surface of the malignant plasma cells that characterize this cancer type. BCMA is a promising novel target for antimyeloma therapies.
