Description:

Ascites, also known as peritoneal cavity fluid, peritoneal fluid excess, hydroperitoneum, is an accumulation of fluid in the peritoneal cavity. Although most commonly due to cirrhosis and severe liver disease, its presence may have a carcinoma origin such as in the lung, ovaries, pancreas and other sites. Diagnosis of the cancer may be with blood tests and by ultrasound scan of the abdomen. Ascites is aseptically removed by paracentesis.

Use CSI19632 for ascites from donors with liver disease, cirrhosis.

Storage/Stability:

Store at -20°C to -80°C. Recommended upon initial thaw to prepare working aliquots and store at -20°C to -80°C. Avoid multiple freeze/thaw cycles.

Application notes:

Not tested for infectious diseases. This material should be handled at Bio-Safety Level 2 (BSL 2) as recommended for potentially infectious human serum or blood specimen in the CCD/NIH manual "Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories", 2009.
